John Pennekamp State Park Marina
We left "igood" sleeping in Key Biscayne anchorage
and continued our journey south. The wind shifted last night and we had more motion on the boat, not bad,but more than we have gotten used to....so a little restless night for both of us. It was a motoring kind of day, with light and variable winds of 5 kts or less. We skipped down the coast, only about 10 miles from the Gulf Stream. We watched the Gulf Stream clouds most of the day. Flying fish & turtle sightings today. When we arrived at our turn to go up into John Pennekamp it looked narrow. Several dive and snorkel boats were coming out and Tom said"great! We caught them during change of shift!" It was a very tight channel with mangroves on both side; it was a 2.8 mile journey up to the docks.
The shallow spots were few and 6ft. At the dock it is 19ft. When we arrived at the dock, Captain backed in so we could get off the stern.. Dockmaster said, this guy knows what he's doing! Tom took the wheel off and it makes it easy to get on & off.
We got settled had quick dinner of prepared chicken Tuscan stew, then Kat was off the boat exploring!
Due to weather we decided to stay here until Sunday. Lots of new things to explore. Checked out the mooring field and beach, the campground and Marina services.
I was able to get almost a 2 mile walk in. Found the laundromat,so we will get caught up on that tomorrow. There are several things we may check out in the next few days. What is nice we can walk one way to places & take an Uber back. I downloaded the app. We are high tech here on Tomkat!
We both enjoy being able to take showers on the boat and new repiping works well. To think a week ago we were freezing & bundled and tonight we have the air conditioning on.
This is the view from our bow.
